Seal Beach is one of the most beautiful places to visit in Orange County. It’s also the home of Huntington Harbor .. A gorgeous body of water that only boat owners and their guests are able to experience … unless you take a gondola ride with Sunset Gondola!
Located at 16370 Pacific Coast Highway, the office of Sunset Gondola is nothing more than a little hut, sandwiched between a variety or restaurants and shops. Don’t let this fool you. Just wait until you see the beauty that lies ahead.
Sunset Gondola offers a variety of packages, with trips ranging from a mere 30 minutes to two hours. We were invited to try an hour-long gondola ride … the perfect amount of time for someone like me who is constantly on the move.
The gondolas used at Sunset Gondola are built in Venice, Italy. Ours was painted in beautiful shades of black and red. A young man named Chris introduced himself as our tour guide and we instantly kicked back as he began to paddle.
It was a perfect day on the water. During our 60-minute journey, we caught a glimpse of the many stunning (and expensive) homes that sit on the Harbor. Believe it or not, the owner of Chuck E. Cheese has a home here, and the outside is painted in a ‘cheese-like’ yellow. I wonder if he has his own personal Skee-Ball machine inside?
Drinking is allowed on the gondola, and believe me, some delicious wine was consumed during our ride. We passed by many friendly Seal Beach natives while on the water. One boat in particular insisted that we kiss for them. That was both interesting and creepy at the same time.
When the hour was up, I found myself yearning for more. It’s peaceful, serene and quiet on the Harbor … not to mention extremely romantic. I INSIST you start saving up some money and book a ride with Sunset Gondola. It’s the closest to Venice, Italy, you are going to get … unless of course you find a way to Europe!
