Take a break from your usual Santa Monica routine of shopping on the Third Street Promenade and visit Magicopolis at 1418 4th Street.
Upon entering the tiny shop, it will appear that you are just in a magic store, but little do you know what lies down a short hallway … For the low price of $27, you can watch an entire magic show at Magicopolis. The show runs every Friday and Saturday afternoon at both 2pm and 8pm.
We arrived at Magicpolis at 7:30pm and had a seat at the bar. Don’t laugh at the Magicopolis bar because they actually have a large selection of beers and wines at an affordable price. The bartender performed a few card tricks (some of which blew my mind) for us while we waited for the real show to begin.
The theater was nearly sold out on this random Saturday evening. All of the tricks during the course of an hour were peformed by Steve Spill and Bozena Wrobel. And they were all the tricks you’d hope for. Levitation? Check! Sawing a girl in half? Check! Placing a girl in a box, opening the box to find her missing and somehow standing at the very back of the theater? Check!
All of the magic tricks were quite impressive … especially the final act. Mr. Spill is tied up inside of a mechanical contraption and has to break free before many sharp spikes plow right through his head.
Magicopolis is great for all ages, but if you have a baby, you should probably leave it at home (or take it to the earlier show). One baby in particular decided to cry throughout the entire show, ruining it for everyone else! The price is really a steal considering shows in Las Vegas will charge you over $100 to see the same tricks!
