Looking for a new place to relax in Los Angeles? The beaches of Malibu just aren’t doing the trick? Head over to Lake Shrine Temple at 17190 Sunset Blvd, located footsteps from Pacific Coast Highway in Pacific Palisades, and step right into calmness.
Only 10-acres in size, Lake Shrine Temple is a quick (and free) escape from reality, with surroundings you’d expect to see in the countryside of upstate New York, and not footsteps away from the beach.
A beautiful lake takes on the role of centerpiece for the rest of the grounds. Follow the circular trail and you will see swans, beautiful trees and flowers, a beautiful waterfall, old-fashion house boat, Windmill Chapel and even the Mahatma Gandhi World Peace Memorial (of which includes a portion of Gandi’s ashes).
Lake Shrine Temple is a spiritual place, but you do not need to follow Hinduism to feel welcome. Your surroundings will do that for you. And if you are lucky on your visit like I was, a turtle just might cross your path.
Do not rush your trip through Lake Shrine Temple. The scenery and silence is not only breathtaking, but something you will not experience on your way home in rush hour on the 405 Freeway.
