Located at 2476 San Diego Avenue in Old Town San Diego is The Whaley House. The site has been historically documented as the most haunted house in the United States and after one visit to The Whaley House (built in the 1850’s), I definately believe it. Although nobody in the Whaley family actually died inside of the house, the area where the house now stands was once home to many local hangings. Perhaps those spirits are the ones still lurking the halls …
I received an errily vibe immediately after entering The Whaley House. The first room we explored was the old court house. Photos are displayed of different ghostly images taken throught the years, many in the form of unexplainable beams of light. The living room and bedrooms of The Whaley House are creepy in nature. I’m not sure if it was the dead silence throughout the house or the old-fashion furniture in each room that did me in, but I definately was spooked.
We sat down in a room that once housed many local plays. The tour guide told us a story of a ghostly prescence that she felt past through her body a few years ago while inside The Whaley House. I’m surprised she still works there after her experience!
The Whaley House can be explored from top to bottom in about 30 minutes. Be sure and take many pictures … we had more than one ghostly image show up in ours! Head over to WhaleyHouse.org for hours, admission prcies and driving directions.
